Joseph “Sepp” Blatter’s decision to resign Tuesday as FIFA president couldn’t have elicited a more overwhelming response on Twitter: good riddance.
Coverage on Twitter of the whole case has been continuous — as thousands called for Blatter to step down, so when the news finally broke — the reactions to #BlatterOut were instant:
Blatter. Has. Quit. It's 6pm, the working day is done, go out and have a drink…

If Sepp Blatter can be forced out maybe Goodell can too!
— Faux John Madden (@FauxJohnMadden) June 2, 2015
Holy hell I'm watching history. Is he really stepping down? Am I awake or still dreaming! #BlatterOut

Following the celebrations, there was room for debate on the reasons that led Blatter to change his mind, after seemingly riding out the worst corruption scandal in FIFA’s 111 year history:
Blatter out. There must be an awful lot more strife coming down the line to persuade a man as brazen as him to quit.

Blatter resigns – so what happened in last four days to change his mind ?
— Ian Darke (@IanDarke) June 2, 2015
His wishes to take a role in the rebuilding of FIFA following his departure were met with skepticism, but the impact of his resignation remains unclear:
Blatter resigns: "I will call an extraordinary #fifa congress as rapidly as possible to elect my successor. I will not stand"
— Henry Winter (@henrywinter) June 2, 2015
Quite bizarre contradiction. On the one hand Blatter says he is quitting but also says he will work on reconstruction of Fifa #FIFA

It's tremendous that Blatter is out. But Blatter isn't the end of FIFA's problems. Change won't happen unless people keep paying attention.

There has been no comment yet from Blatter’s official Twitter account, but retweets of his statements have made up for that:
By far the most LOL line in Blatter's resignation statement. Who knew he had such a gift for stand-up pic.twitter.com/20AAheIFIc
